The top ten best universities announced by The Daily Pennsylvanian two weeks ago are indeed the same as the "leaked version". There is no change in the top five compared with last year. They are still the Ivy League universities such as Princeton University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University, Stanford University and Yale University.
But the sixth place has changed from the "only one" university, the University of Pennsylvania, to a tie among four American universities - Northwestern University, the California Institute of Technology, Johns Hopkins University and Duke University - with the University of Pennsylvania taking the tenth place.
Cornell University and the University of Chicago rank #11, Brown University and Columbia University are #13. In addition, Dartmouth College and the University of California, Los Angeles are tied for #15, while the University of California, Berkeley has slipped to #17. Rice University, the University of Notre Dame and Vanderbilt University are tied for #18.
Of course, this is mainly because compared with last year, the ranking indicators of the U.S.News Best Colleges Ranking have undergone significant adjustments this year. The notable change is that the ranking indicator of the graduation rate of the first generation of college students has been removed.
In the 2024 ranking, the graduation rate of first-generation students was an important indicator for evaluating university performance, accounting for 2.5%. In the 2025 ranking, this indicator will no longer be included in the ranking criteria, and its weight will shift to a similar ranking factor, the "Pell Grant graduation rate".
Consistent with last year, the 2025 ranking continues to emphasize outcome metrics such as student retention rate, graduate debt situation, and post-graduation income compared to typical high school graduates.
However, for applications, ranking is only one of the factors to be considered. We would also like to remind all students and parents once again that the adjustment of ranking indicators will inevitably cause changes in university rankings. Ups and downs are quite normal. Keep a relaxed mindset and hope that everyone can strive to get into their dream schools!
At present, there are four highly recognized university rankings worldwide. It is recommended that you can compare 2 to 3 ranking standards horizontally according to your own needs. This way, the ranking results obtained may be more complete.
Because the methods, ranking objects, weight indicators and ranking systems of various rankings are all different, we have also sorted out a universal reference methodology for everyone's use.

When applying to American institutions, the USNews ranking system is used
If academic achievements are given more emphasis, it is recommended to refer to ARWU and USNews
If you place more emphasis on employment returns, it is recommended to refer to QS and Times

It's still the same old saying
None of the rankings are the best choices for school selection
Because to a greater or lesser extent
Everyone will bring in some personal items
After all, there are ranking methods and reference standards
There are all kinds of opinions
When it comes to actually choosing a school
I still advise everyone to abandon the "ranking only" approach.
Take a closer look at the school environment, academic conditions, curriculum design and future employment
Wait for these aspects that are closely related to you
To measure whether this school is really suitable for you
Rankings do not define a university
Grades and universities cannot define you either
Let's continue to walk on the path of exploration together
Discover yourself, find yourself, and love yourself
This is what makes sense ✨
