1. Choose to study abroad
I began to choose to study abroad for further education. One reason is that I hope to broaden my horizons by learning knowledge from different systems. The differences in educational concepts and teaching methods between different regions can also bring me more improvement. Secondly, during the summer school in university, I developed a strong interest in the collision between different cultures.
After having the idea of studying abroad, I have been preparing for it throughout my college years. In order to fulfill the dreams of my high school days, the majors I initially chose were all concentrated in the field of media. However, as I delved deeper into my studies at university and gradually became clear about my future development direction during my internship, I chose to apply for the marketing major, which I was more interested in and also more closely related to my undergraduate major.
2. choice an institution
For every student preparing to study abroad, choosing an institution is a very important step and undoubtedly a process that requires a lot of time to choice and compare.
The main criteria for me to choose an institution are:
The teacher's attention to students. This includes the communication efficiency and response speed between teachers and students, etc.
The professionalism of the institution itself. In fact, the process of creating application essays varies greatly from institution to institution. Some institutions may not conduct essay brainstorming and are reluctant to deeply understand students. They merely make some stereotyped descriptions. As a result, their own characteristics are difficult to stand out. Therefore, the level of the essay teacher is also of vital importance.
When I started looking for an institution, I first searched for institution recommendations on social media and also asked my friends about the institutions they had signed with. After comparing and choosing from multiple aspects, I got in touch with Teacher Wang from Yisi Boluo. During the communication with Teacher Wang, I could feel her sincerity. She devoted all her care and help to each student and would also put herself in our shoes. In this way, I was deeply attracted by the teacher's personal charm.
When seeking offline consultation at Yisibole, one can better appreciate the professionalism of this institution. Not only are there consulting teachers, but also planning teachers, document teachers, post-production teachers, etc. After a detailed understanding of the powerful mentor team of Yisi Boluo, my love and trust for Yisi Boluo have been gradually increasing.
3. Application process
The entire application process in collaboration with Yisi Boluo not only enabled me to be admitted to my dream school, but also gave me a deeper understanding of my major direction and future employment.
First of all, when choosing a school together with the consulting teacher in the early stage, apart from standardized test scores and practical experience, the teacher will also take into account my personality traits, personal interests and career plans to determine the school and major. This can ensure that I am highly compatible with the chosen major, rather than simply and brutally screening based on the school's requirements.
After understanding my basic situation, the planning teacher will formulate a detailed planning scheme for me based on the school's admission standards and guide me step by step to achieve these goals. For instance, preparing for IELTS, improving grades in specialized courses, how to choose courses, etc. If there is an internship need, the teacher will also assist me in organizing my resume and collecting internship information, and actively apply for it.
During this process, the teachers did not "help me" to complete it, but we "worked together".
A few months before the application season officially began, my essay teacher and I had one-on-one brainstorming sessions. Looking back now, it was the teacher's professionalism and his discovery of my shining points that gave me a sense of reassurance at that time.
When communicating with the teacher, the main questions are about past experiences, the reasons for choosing the major, and personal interests, etc. During this process, the focus is not only on the "result", but also on "why" I did it and what long-term impacts it has. In addition, future career planning is also a key point in the document. Therefore, it is necessary to broaden one's thinking during this process.
After collecting all the materials, the document teacher will organize them into an initial draft in English. During the writing process, the teacher will fully listen to my ideas and suggestions and revise them together until the final version is flawless.
Later, there will be application teachers to assist with the application submission. The teachers will arrange the submission in an orderly manner based on the school's application opening time and my actual situation.
My application schedule is as follows: First round: The University of Hong Kong + Hong Kong University of Science and Technology; second round: The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, etc. The communication with the application teacher throughout the entire process was very smooth, and my own ideas were fully respected.
To my surprise, after submitting my application to the University of Hong Kong in the first round, I smoothly received an offer. Since then, I haven't applied for any other schools' programs.
4. Application Suggestions
Based on my own past experience and in combination with the situations of my classmates around me, I would like to advise my younger schoolmates:
First of all, during the undergraduate period, one must study the major courses earnestly and strive to achieve high scores, because the GPA is a very important factor in the application for studying abroad, and professional knowledge, as a basic skill, cannot be ignored either. If you start preparing late and most of your major courses have already ended, you can try choosing some elective courses to improve your grade point average.
It is essential to start preparing for a study abroad application as early as possible. In my opinion, it is advisable to begin language learning one and a half to two years in advance and determine the agency and target university more than a year in advance.
Throughout the entire process, it is inevitable that there will be constant changes in one's mindset. One can choose to confide in parents, friends, or professional teachers from study abroad agencies and make timely self-adjustments.
If I were to talk about the challenges and regrets of the entire application season, I think it would be that I gave up the GRE exam out of fear of difficulties. Because the University of Hong Kong does not have a strict requirement for GRE scores and I was busy with my internship, I held onto a bit of luck at that time. After persisting for a while, I chose to give up.
Looking back now, I still feel a bit regretful. Although this score was not necessary, it to some extent restricted my choice of major. During the waiting period, it also added anxiety and regret to me. So here I would like to suggest to everyone: In the face of increasingly fierce competition among Hong Kong schools, if you want to apply for business programs at the top five universities in Hong Kong, it is still necessary to bring GRE scores, whether it is a hard requirement of the school or not.
Like all applicants, the process of waiting for the offer was inevitably tormenting, but the full internship arrangement prevented me from fully focusing on the application result. Here, it is also recommended that students with severe anxiety keep themselves busy during the application season to divert their attention and relieve their anxiety.
5. Application Experience
Because I don't have a GRE score and have learned about the real application difficulty this year - there are choice
