Review of Tutoring
Hou studied urban planning at Guizhou University for his undergraduate degree. Originally, he planned to go to the United States. He sought assistance from local institutions to handle the visa application process in Guiyang. However, due to the unprofessionalism of the agency, the student was forced to abandon his plan to pursue a graduate degree in the United States. To avoid delaying his studies, he later chose to complete his graduate studies at the Australian National University.
After graduating and returning to China, the student quickly found a job within the system. His half-year work experience made him increasingly determined to pursue a doctoral degree.
Through a recommendation from a classmate, Hou learned about our Yisibole. Considering his previous experience with an intermediary during the application for postgraduate studies, the student was very cautious in choosing the institution. After all, compared to pursuing a postgraduate degree, the promotion to a doctoral degree requires consideration of various factors such as time and effort, budget investment, academic/research background requirements, etc. We need to match the application recommendation plan based on the student's family's ideas, suggestions, and case situation.
Due to the insufficient preparation period, we decided to adopt the existing project from the student's master's degree - "Pocket Parks" for the doctoral application research plan. First, we screened out the countries and regions with smaller areas. Then, we conducted a comprehensive assessment by considering the learning investment cost, scholarship types and quantities. After that, we targeted the study destinations to China Hong Kong, China Macau, Malaysia and Australia. Subsequently, we proceeded with the review of various university programs and the selection of the list of mentors.
Through multiple discussions between the students and later by Teacher Lei, we have matched the mentorship approaches into A/B/C categories to determine the matching degree and the timing of the mentoring sessions.
Those of you who have applied for a doctoral degree know that the duration of the mentoring stage, as well as the feedback on the results, are highly unpredictable. Therefore, during this stage, students need to have strong psychological resilience, while the application guidance teachers also need to provide psychological counseling and professional advice based on their own excellent professional qualities and experience.
During this period, Hou and his family also showed varying degrees of anxiety. Especially when the student faced the domestic spring recruitment, family pressure, and the uncertainty of the application review process again, we maintained close communication with the student at all stages to truly achieve transparency in the application process~
Hard work pays off. We promptly received admission letters from the City University of Macau and the University of Technology Malaysia. This marks the opening of an ideal door for Hou's doctoral study journey!
